The first D-5B satellite was lost in the 1973 May 21 launch failure. Its planned orbit wsa 300 x 1290 km x 20 deg. The spacecraft was to test a microaccelerometer for air density studies. The second stage separation rockets failed to produce enough thrust to separate from stage 3.
