GAMBIT 90

1982-06A

This satellite was a standard GAMBIT but used for an area survey mission instead of close-look on point targets. After the first day, 1982-06A circularized its orbit at 600 km. Successive orbital adjustments raised the orbit to 624 x 657 km by Mar 10. Three new objects were cataloged in orbit around Mar 21, and a fourth sometime in April; they are listed as debris in the Satellite Catalog. One of the GAMBIT SRVs was reportedly not recovered, and it seems likely that the Mar 21 objects are the SRV and its covers; perhaps the SRV was ejected but the deorbit motor did not fire. On May 23 the spacecraft was deorbited.
