Why is it Called the Tarantula Nebula?
Because it looks like a large, hairy spider with brightly illuminated legs coming out of a large central body.
Objects in space may be named based on what they look like, or after the constellation in which they are found. Sometimes they are named in honor of the astronomer who first observed them.
